Mewaldt-Jensen

Mewaldt-Jensen is located where Northern's first major building, Central Building, was located. Central, which burned to the ground February 1, 1961, had been dedicated in 1902 with a construction cost of $28,000. Mewaldt-Jensen is a classroom and office building for the departments of mathematics, the sciences, and business. It has 60 private offices for staff, 16 classrooms and 13 laboratories. The cost of equipment and building, which was dedicated on May 28, 1964, was $964,000. The name honors two longtime Northern faculty members: N. H. "Scout" Mewaldt, who gave 38 years of service to Northern as professor of mathematics, from 1927 to 1965, and John H. Jensen, professor of chemistry and physics at Northern from 1931 to 1968.
