WAYNE
COMPLETES TWO-DAY, FOUR-GAME SWEEP OF WOLVES
April
7, 2002

Going
home - Freshman outfielder Jason Scott
rounds third on his way to scoring Sunday during the first
game in Northern's doubleheader with Wayne State (Neb.). |
Not much
went right for the home team Sunday as Northern suffered 27-2
and 11-1 losses at the hands of Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference power Wayne State (Neb.).
In the
first game, Wayne exploded for a 20-2 lead going into the
seventh and final inning, then tacked on another seven runs
with all but one player from its original lineup still in
the game.
The Wolves
(5-18, 0-8 NSIC) stayed competitive in the second game until
the midway point, but were gradually overcome again by the
Wildcats' bats.
Senior
shortstop Eric Borge (Mellette, S.D.) led NSU at the plate,
going 2-for-5 on the day. Sophomore pitcher Shawn Young (St.
Paul, Minn.) and freshman hurler Joe Dinger (Aberdeen) took
the losses on the mound for NSU. Wayne improved to 17-12 overall
and 7-1 in the NSIC.
The Wolves
will continue conference play Wednesday by hosting Southwest
State at Fossum Field in Aberdeen.
