CONCORDIA HOLDS OFF PESKY WOLVES 3-2, 10-8

St. Paul, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul came back from two runs down in game one and held off a seventh inning Northern State surge in game two to hand the Wolves 3-2 and 10-8 losses in St. Paul on Friday afternoon. The two teams will meet again on Saturday in a doubleheader that starts at noon.

CSP rallied from a 2-0 deficit to score one in the fourth and two in the fifth to nip the Wolves 3-2 in game one of a four-game series between the schools this weekend. Northern State outhit the Golden Bears 9 to 5 in the game but left 11 runners on base as the Wolves dropped to 11-28 on the season. Dave Holoch led NSU from the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Jay Duehring (2-for-3) and Ben Cupp (2-for-2) also had two-hit games for the Wolves. Joel Backous recorded a solid outing on the hill for Northern going six innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out four.

Northern State saw a seventh-inning rally fall two runs short as the Wolves put up four runs in the top of the inning in an attempt to come back from down 10-4. CSP jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Wolves could get on the board scoring four in the second and two in the third. Deacon Burns hit his tenth home run of the season while Joel Backous, Dave Holoch and Ben Cupp each posted two-hit games in the nightcap.
