DROPS TWO TO GOLDEN EAGLES, 5-4, 6-3

- Minnesota, Crookston defeated Northern State in NSIC baseball
action at Fossum Field on Saturday afternoon by scores of 5-4 and
6-3. The sweep comes just one day after the Wolves took two from
UMC on Friday in Crookston.

Three hits
and a Wolves error gave UMC three runs in the top of the fifth en
route to a 5-4 victory over Northern State in game one of NSIC baseball
action on Saturday. The inning began with the score tied 2-2 when
the Golden Eagles scored their three runs while NSU managed just
one in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the bottom of the
seventh to fall one run short in the loss. Jay Duehring, Dave
Holoch and Joel Backous all finished the game with two
hits with Holoch leading the way with two RBIs and a double. Backous
pitched five innings on the hill for the Wolves giving up four earned
runs and striking out five.

The fifth inning
proved to be fatal for Northern State for the second straight game
as the Wolves gave up four runs in the top half of the inning in
game two and fell to Minnesota, Crookston 6-3. NSU entered the fifth
tied 2-2 when UMC used three hits and two hit batters to take a
6-2 advantage and hold on for the three-run win. Deacon Burns,
Joel Backous and Steve Rixen all posted two-hit games
with Backous tacking on an RBI as well. Joe Fuller threw
three innings in the loss giving up three earned runs.
Northern State
will host NSIC rival Southwest State for a doubleheader on Tuesday
afternoon at 2 p.m. at Fossum Field in Aberdeen.
