NSU EARNS SPLIT WITH VALLEY CITY STATE

Valley City, N.D. - Northern State used a single by Owen Olson followed by an RBI double by Deacon Burns to earn a hard-fought nine inning win over Valley City State in game one of the Wolves' doubleheader on Tuesday. The Vikings came back in game two, however, and downed Northern State 14-1.

Deacon Burn drove in Owen Olson with a ninth-inning RBI double as Northern State held on for the 6-5 win in game one with Valley City State on Tuesday. NSU held a 3-1 advantage until the Vikings tied the game with a two-run fourth inning. The Wolves went back on top with two runs in the top of the sixth but VCSU answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own. Burn was the only Wolf to record a multi-hit game going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Wes Fisbeck hit his 13th home run of the season in the game, as well. Sophomore Joel Backous earned his first win of the season going eight strong innings and giving up five earned runs and striking out two. Joe Dinger came in to save his third game of the season.

Valley City State made quick work of the Wolves in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader handing NSU a 14-1 loss in five innings. Northern State gathered just five hits in the game while the Vikings hit 14 in the game. Joe Fuller scored the Wolves' lone run as Deacon Burns drove in the freshman with a sac fly in the top of the fifth.
