Wolves Have 4 Named to NSIC All-Conference Team
Burns Named Co-Player of the Year
The Northern State University Baseball Team had four members selected to the 2004 NSIC All-Conference Team. Deacon Burns (Jr., CF, Brownwood, TX) was named Co-Player of the Year; WesFisbeck (Jr., UT, Loveland, CO) was also named to the first team, while BenjiKieffer (Jr., OF, Morris, MN) and ValdieMagstadt (Fr., P/IF, Beulah, ND) were selected to the honorable mention team.
^Deacon Burns set/tied two NSIC league records this season with 13 home runs and 91 total bases. (Tim Richt of Wayne State, co-player of year, also had 13 home runs and 91 total bases). Burns also led the NSIC in batting average (.495), hits (45), runs scored (37), slugging percentage (1.000), and on base percentage (.548). He was also third in RBIs (34) and stolen bases (9-10).
*Wes Fisbeck also earned first team all-conference honors, finishing first on the team in doubles (17) and second on the team with a .432 batting average, a .742 fielding percentage and 57 hits. Valdie Magstadt and Benji Kieffer each received honorable mention honors. Magstadt was third on the team with a .411 batting average and 46 hits while Kieffer led the team in sac bunts (4), was second in triples (2) and was fifth with a .369 batting average.
All four of the players had over ten multiple hit games over the season. Burns had 20, Fisbeck 17, Kieffer 12, and Magstadt 10. Burns and Magstadt were the only two members of the team to have five hits in a single game this season.
The Wolves finished the season with a 17-26 overall record and a 10-16 mark in the NSIC. The Wolves won three more games than a year ago including seven more in the NSIC.
