Another Wide Ride Against Minnesota-Crookston

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The
Wolves and the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston racked up the runs
again as the Wolves dropped game one 15-14, but rebounded to win game
two 18-7.
In the four games that the two teams
have played against each other this season there has been a combined 127
hits (73 NSU), 98 runs (63 NSU), 30 home runs (19 NSU), and 22 doubles
(15 NSU). The Wolves pitching had an ERA of 9.32 while the Golden Eagle
pitching staff had a 19.67 ERA in the four games.
Deacon Burns has been hotter than a
Texas summer as he went 6 for 9 on the day with five home runs (one a
grand slam), 13 RBIs, and six runs scored. After striking out in his first
at bat of the day (the strike out was only his seventh in 133 at bats
this season), Burns hit three home runs, knocking in nine RBIs and scoring
four times in game one alone. Game two saw Burns hit two home runs in
the same inning as he knocked in four more runs.
The Wolves gave up seven runs in the
fourth inning to give the Golden Eagles the edge in game one. The Wolves
rallied in the bottom of the seventh as they scored four runs, but were
unable to get the final run they needed as they fell 15-14. Jay
Duehring went 3 for 4 with with four runs scored and a RBI.

The
Wolves pounded in ten runs in the bottom of the third inning to secure
the win in game two. Seven insurance runs were scored by the Wolves in
the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away.
Rhett
Gunderson (2-4) got the win as he went four innings giving up four runs
on eight hits. Jared Olson came in to relief Gunderson. Olson gave up
three runs on six hits in his three innings of work.
The
Wolves are now 15-24 overall and 8-14 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles are
now 4-32 overall and 2-20 in the NSIC.
The
Wolves close out their season the weekend when they host Bemidji State
at Fossum Field in Aberdeen. Saturday's games are scheduled to start at
1:30 p.m. and Sunday's games are set for noon.
