Paulson Gave Up One Earned Run Against the Mustangs

Northern State split with Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon, losing the first game 7-5 and winning the second 5-2. The Wolves improve to 6-12 overall and 2-4 in the NSIC while the Mustangs are 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC.
The Wolves threatened in the bottom of the seven inning in game one trailing 7-4 as they loaded the bases with no outs. Wes Fisbeck grounded to third base as the Mustangs turned the double play as the Wolves came within two at 7-5. Ben Cupp then grounded to third base to end the Wolves threat and the game at 7-5.
Adam Kampsen and Ben Cupp were the only Wolves with two hits in the game and RBIs were distributed out evenly with Valdie Magstadt, Kampsen, Fisbeck, and Charlie Woida each collecting one.
Jarod Olson pitched all seven innings for the Wolves. He gave up six earned runs on 12 hits. He struck out two and walked one of the 34 batters he faced.
Game two had Matt Paulson pitched a gem as he picked up his first win of the season. Paulson went all seven innings giving up only one earned run on eight hits. He struck and three and walked only one of the 30 batters he faced.
The Wolves help their pitcher out by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. After a Benji Kieffer single, Valdie Magstadt reaching on an error and an Adam Kampsen walk the bases were loaded. Wes Fisbeck singled in a run to left followed by Ben Cupp single to the shortstop to make it 2-0. Charlie Woida then walked with the bases juiced to make it a 3-0 game.
The Wolves added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the third when Andrew Corre hit a two strike single down the right field line scoring Backous and Fisbeck.
