Wolves Give Up 18 in Each of Two Losses

Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State (3-15) lost another two games to Augustana College (16-7) as they gave up 18 runs in each game played at Fossum Field today. The Wolves lost game one 18-7 and game two 18-2 as Augustana College gets the four game sweep of the Wolves.

Northern State lost game one 18-7 after the Vikings blew open a three run game in the top of the sixth innings as they exploded for nine runs. The Wolves found themselves down early as the Vikings scored four in the first inning off a pair of home runs.

Adam Kampsen had a perfect game at the plate as he was 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles and scored a run. Christian Tavzrez was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles as well.

Jackson Strain took the lose in his first decision of the season as he went 1 1/3 innings giving up six runs on seven hits. Tyler Oliver went 3 2/3 and gave up seven runs on four hits after walking six. He did strike out four. Andrew Corre went the final two innings, giving up five runs (one earned) on three hits. Corre struck out three.

Game two was much like game one in that the Wolves found themselves down early. Thor Trip capped off a five run first inning for the Vikings as he drilled a grand slam over the center field wall.

The Wolves answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, but would not score again as they were blasted 18-2.

Adam Kampsen was 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a double. For the day Kampsen was 6-for-6 with four RBI, three doubles and a run scored.

Matt Sisk took the loss in game two as he went four innings, giving up 11 runs on nine hits. Sisk hurt himself by hitting four batters and walking another. Mike Paulson came in relief for two innings, giving up six runs on seven hits. He walked and struck out three. Kampsen came in for the seventh inning, giving up one run (unearned) on one hit.

Northern State travels to Valley City State this Wednesday, April 5 th for a double header. They return home this weekend to host NSIC rival Winona State on Saturday and Sunday. Doubleheaders scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
