Marshall, Minn. - Northern State lost a pair of games to SW Minnesota State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Wolves fell 23-10 and 14-2 to the Mustangs in Marshall, Minn.

The Wolves got on the board in the first inning as Justin Downes drove in AndrewLundsetter. The Mustangs countered in the bottom of the first with eight runs on four hits as the Wolves mixed in a pair of errors. The Wolves then counterpunched with a six run second innings as Adam Kampsen blasted a grand slam to make it an 8-7 game.

The Mustangs came storming back as they posted eight runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to make it a 23-7 game. The Wolves added three runs in the sixth, but would come no closer. For the game the Wolves had 11 hits and two errors while the Stangs had 20 hits and one error.

The Wolves stayed close in game two over the first two and a half innings, but the Mustangs opened up a 2-2 game as the scored four in the third, three in the fourth and fifth and two in the sixth to go home with the 14-2 win and the sweep on day one of the four game series.

Justin Downes went five innings on the mound for the Wolves giving p 12 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits. Tyler Oliver came in for the sixth innings giving up two runs on two hits.

The Wolves face the Mustangs again Sunday, April 23 at noon in twinball action.
