Wolves Sweep Presentation

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State (9-34) got their revenge on cross-town rival Presentation College (13-22) as they overpowered the Saints 12-2 and 8-2 in a non-conference doubleheader at Fossum Field. The Wolves also picked up their first back-to-back wins of the season as they take the season series with the Saints 2-1.

Aaron Kappes got the Wolves started early as the leadoff hitter took his first pitch yard putting the Wolves up 1-0 in the first. Some may say that the line drive homer to left was wind aided, but one can never tell.

The Saints answered with two runs in the second after a foul ball came back fair (wind) and dropped in, scoring a run. An error kept the inning alive as the Saints scored their second run on a fielder’s choice.

The Wolves would answer back in the fourth with four runs. The Wolves used four hits and two Saint errors to put up the four spot.

Paul Gerrish (2-7) picked up the win as he went all seven innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out five and walking two of the 29 batters he faced.

Gerrish held the Saints in check during the middle innings, setting down the Saints first three batters in the third, fourth and sixth innings. Gerrish also helped his own cause as he went 3-for-4 on the day with three runs, two RBI and a two-run homer in the fourth.

Adam Kampsen jacked a three run homer in the sixth, his twelfth of the season.

In game two the Wolves got on the board early with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Saints only runs in the game would come off solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Mike Paulson (3-4) went all seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out seven of the 28 batters he faced.

Gerrish, Paulson, and Tyler Oliver all had two hits in the game. Tom Keiser (3) and Lucas Pickle (1) homered in the game as well.

The Wolves close out their season this weekend when they host Bemidji State. Games on Saturday start at 1:30 p.m. while Sunday’s games are set for noon. The Wolves (0-14 NSIC) and the Beavers (1-13 NSIC) are battling for fifth place in the final NSIC standings.
