Wolves Go 1-1 in Third Day of Classic

JOPLIN, Mo.. - In the first game of the day Northern State (1-4) lost a heartbreaker 12-13 to Findlay University. The Wolves had a lot of missed opportunities that came back to haunt them. They Wolves only had seven hits in the game, but Findlay pitchers hit six and walked six Wolves batters.

The Wolves were down 10-7 after three innings of play but wre able to rally to take a 12-10 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning. The Wolves could not hold the lead as Findlay used four hits and a walk to score the three runs needed for the victory.

Offensively the Wolves were led by freshman Payton McCleary and junior Tom Keiser as they both went 2-for-4. McCleary also had three runs in the game.

JOPLIN, Mo.. - In the second game of the day Northern State (2-4) got an outstanding pitching performance from freshamn Tyler Fries (1-0) from Sauk Rapids, Minn. The freshman pitched a complete game giving up six hits, two earned runs, while striking out three for the 7-2 victory over Missouri Southern State. This was the first time that the Wolves defeated Missouri Southern.

Offensively the Wolves scored one run in the first and never looked back as they scored four more in the third and two in the sixth to get their second victory of the season. The Wolves were led by Payton McCleary as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the game. Jamie Paul, Matt Geissler, and Tom Keiser each went 2-for-4 while combining for three runs scored and three RBI's. Adam Kampsen also had two RBI's for the Wolves.

Vestal got the loss for Missouri Southern as he went 5 innings giving up nine hits and five earned runs. Six players for Missouri Southern had one hit a piece.

Northern State and Massouri Southern will face off again today for a 1 p.m. start.
