Russell Named NSIC Co-Offensive Player of the Week - Latu Named Special Teams POW

St. Paul , Minn. – Northern State's quarterback John Russell and free safety Una Latu have been named NSIC players of the Week. This marks the first time this season the Wolves have had multiple players named in the same week as they have totaled seven POWs on the season.
John Russell, a 6-4, 215-pound junior from Hayward, Calif., scored six touchdowns in a 64-13 victory over Minnesota-Crookston. Russell completed 12 of 18 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for three more touchdowns.
This is the second time this season Russell has been named offensive player of the week. He also received it following the Wayne State game.
Russell shares the award with Concordia-St. Paul’s McNear, a 6-2, 178-pound senior from Des Moines, Iowa. McNear completed 20 of 35 passes for 194 yards and one touchdown, and rushed for 111 yards on 18 carries, including a 29-yard touchdown run, in a 21-17 victory at Southwest Minnesota State. McNear produced 305 yards of total offense.
With the win the Wolves are 4-2 in the NSIC and 5-5 overall.
Latu NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week - D2Football.com National Player of the Week Honorable Mention
Una Latu was named NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week. Latu, a 5-10, 190-pound junior from Honolulu, Hawaii, blocked two punts and returned one 13 yards for a touchdown, and returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown as well in a 64-13 victory over Minnesota-Crookston. Latu was also named D2football.com National Player of the Week honorable mention for his efforts.
The Wolves blocked three kicks in the game as the have now totaled eight blocks on the season. Chris McClellan was the other NSU player named special team’s player of the week back on October 3rd. Full NSIC Release
