A 14-0 run in the heart of the first half gave SDSU the early cushion it need to dispatch Northern State 99-75 Saturday night in Frost Arena.
NSU shot better than it has in the recent past, but couldn’t overcome its lapses against a relentless South Dakota State team. The Jacks shot a scorching 56 percent for the game and 62 percent in the second half to put the kibosh on any thoughts of an NSU comeback. Division I transfer Terry Cress (Northern Iowa) led SDSU with 19 points.
Junior post Ben Dahl (Cottonwood, Minn.) was solid again in the paint for NSU, scoring a team-high and career-tying high 18 points for the Wolves on 6-of-7 shooting. Dahl has scored 18 points four times in his career. Senior forward Dan Fischer (Bagley, Minn.) found his stroke from long range, finishing with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. Junior guard Jared Miller (Mitchell) chipped in 14.
Redshirt freshman Ben Rops (Lennox) made the most of his minutes, scoring
a career-high 12 points all in the second half.
