Northern State improved on last season's 13-14 record with its 14th win of the season Friday night, a convincing 75-61 triumph at Concordia-St. Paul.
The Wolves (14-11, 10-7 NSIC) overpowered the Golden Bears (8-18, 4-13 NSIC) from the start, but a late first-half lapse had the Wolves up only 35-33 at the half. C-SP would lead by as many as seven early in the second stanza before NSU came alive again and dominated the game from the paint.
The Wolves out-rebounded C-SP 49-21 on the night and shot 52 percent while holding the Golden Bears to just 33 percent. Junior forward Brad Hansen (Tea) led all scorers with 17 points to go with a game-high nine rebounds. Junior guards Drew Gruver (Scott City, Kan.) and Roland Williams (Ft. Worth, Texas) rounded out the double-digit scorers in NSU's balanced attack with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Bobby Miller and Josh Delich scored 13 apiece to lead C-SP.
NSU's regular season concludes Saturday night at Winona State. The Wolves,
who will finish the regular season fifth in the NSIC, will travel to either
Duluth or Wayne State for a first-round playoff game Tuesday. The Wolves
hope to re-visit C-SP's Gangelhoff Center next weekend after an upset win
on the road for the 2001 NSIC Championship Tournament.
