Northern State overcame a sluggish first half to outscore Minnesota State-Moorhead by 20 points in the second half (44-24) and earn a 75-63 win in Moorhead Friday night. It was NSU's first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win of the season, and upped the team's record to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC. MSU-M dropped to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
The Dragons led by seven with 11 minutes remaining when NSU turned on the jets offensively and applied the clamps defensively with an 18-2 run that turned the game.
Four Wolves reached double-digits, led by junior guard Drew Gruver’s (Scott City, Kan.) 19. Gruver also grabbed seven rebounds. Junior forward Brad Hansen (Tea) recorded his second double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore sharpshooter Nick Schroeder (Plymouth, Minn.) scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, to go with a game-high five assists. Junior post Andy Foster (Caledonia, Minn.) rounded out NSU's double-digit performers with 10 points. Brett Macy led MSU-M with 22 points on a sizzling 7-of-8 shooting.
NSU sophomore forward Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.) missed the game
with a sprained ankle sustained over the holiday break.
