WOLVES
FALL AT NO. 12 SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
Dec. 1, 2001
Northern State
competed but fell short in a 95-81 loss Saturday night at South
Dakota State.
The 12th-ranked
Jackrabbits, playing before a crowd of about 6,000 Jack-backers
proved how dangerous a team they can be with an aggressive, balanced
attack. Six SDSU players hit double-digits on the night, while
the team outrebounded NSU 37-29 and forced 21 Wolves turnovers.
NSU (3-3)
cut the lead to nine points at one point in the second half, but
three quick scores from SDSU gave the team back the 13-16 point
cushion it enjoyed most of the second frame.
Northern was
led by junior forward Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.), who tied
a career high with 21 points including 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point
range. Wicks also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Senior
post Andy Foster (Caledonia, Minn.) put up 18 points on 7-of-11
shooting in the paint. SDSU (4-2) was led by Andy Moeller's 18
points.
The game also
saw the return of NSU senior point guard Roland Williams (Ft.
Worth, Texas), who missed the first five games of the season due
to back problems and a stomach virus. The team's returning leader
in steals dressed for Wednesday's game against No. 8 St. Cloud
State but did not play. Williams scored four points and had two
steals in 13 minutes of play at SDSU.
