Beavers Stay Alone at the Top of the NSIC
ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State battled back from an early 14-2 deficit to knot Bemidji State at 37 at the half and led by as many as ten in the second half, but a barrage of BSU three pointers gave the Beavers' the win as they stay alone a the top of the NSIC with a 10-1 NSIC mark. The Wolves fall to 17-8 overall and 8-3 in the NSIC.
Northern State led by ten point with ten minutes to go in the second half, before Bemidji State went on a 17-0 run in which they hit five three pointers to lead by seven with 9:15 remaining. The Wolves battled to within four late, but Bemidji continued to hit the big shots down the stretch to earn the season split with the Wolves.
The Beavers took advantage of 16 Wolves’ turnovers and turned them into 25 points. The Beavers only committed 11 turnovers on the night. In the game there were 11 blocked shots, seven for Beavers and four for the Wolves. The Beavers shot 45.7% (32-70) from the field while the Wolves hit 41% (25-61). The main difference was Bemidji State’s 45% (14-31) from three point range.
Northern State was led by Matt Hammer (Jr., F, Elkton, S.D.) who scored 29 points and grabbed a career high 12 rebounds as he collected his fifth double double of the season.
Bjoern Schoo (Jr., C, Bad Saeckingen, Germany) tied a career high with four blocks in the game; he also has six points. Jarod Obering (Sr., G, Beatrice, Neb.) added 16 points, four three pointers and six rebounds.
