Men's Basketball Adds Three More for 05-06

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State men’s basketball coach Don Meyer is excited to announce the signing of John Curtis Carr, Jonathon Feerie and Robert Thomas to the 2005-06 sqaud. They will join Casey Anderson of Sturgis, S.D. as the newest members of Northern State men’s basketball.

John Curtis CarrJohn Curtis Carr is a 6’3 guard/forward from Canon City, Colo. Carr played the last two years at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colo. where they went 21-9 last season.

“The thing that goes through our mind in watching John is how hard he played and the passion exhibited in playing the game. John’s energy, athleticism and work ethic is what makes it exciting being around him as a person and team player. John is highly competitive and has demonstrated a great team attitude,” said Meyer.

John FeerieJonathon Feerie is a 6’9, 180 pound forward from Sioux Falls, S.D. He was a 2nd Team All-DVC selection his senior year at Dell Rapids St. Mary’s High School while playing for coach Tim DeJong. He is the son of Pat and Sandy Feerie.

“Jonathon caught our eye late in his senior season. He has excellent work habits and it should be nothing but rapid improvement for him as he has played very little interscholastic basketball. His athleticism and footwork is good now but should become great with time in our strength and conditioning program and continual exposure to the fundamentals of the game,” said Meyer.

Robert ThomasRobert Thomas, a 6’10, 225 pound center from Mankato West High School, was a key part of his team’s 38 game winning streak in high school through his junior and senior year. He led his team to the 2002-2003 state championship, and also led them to the regional final his senior year. Robert was a member of the 2004-2005 All City Team and also received a spot on the Honorable Mention Big 9 Conference team. He averaged 6.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and had 55 blocked shots over the course of his senior season. He is the son of Pat Thomas and Jan Varuska.

“Robert has a strong passion for the game of basketball. He has made great improvements over the past two seasons, and we believe that progress will continue at Northern State. Robert is an intimidating force in the paint as he blocks shots and can finish with some rim rattling dunks. We are pleased that he will be part of the excellent tradition and receive such a great experience from the coaches and players of NSU,” commented Tom Boone Head Coach at Mankato West High School.

“We definitely believe that Rob has his best basketball in front of him. A year of work with Coach Derek Budig in strength and conditioning along with playing with our players will be of great benefit to him. With hard work he can be a force defensively, on the boards and give a scoring presence in the post on a championship team.” Commented Meyer.

Wolves Men’s Basketball Sign Casey Anderson of Sturgis, S.D.

Casey AndersonCasey Anderson, a 6’7, 185 pound senior from Sturgis, S.D. has recently declared his intentions to play basketball for the Northern State Wolves in 2005-06 season. Anderson is the first recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent with the Wolves in the early signing period.

Anderson averaged 15 points per game while grabbing six rebounds per game as a junior at Sturgis High School, which earned him Greater Dakota All-Conference Second Team honors.

“Anderson has a chance to be a special kind of player at Northern State.  We hope to red-shirt him the first year and then we expect him to be a great team player.  Watching him at the Las Vegas Invitational, a fellow coaching friend of mine was very impressed with Casey’s play.  If Bobby Knight thinks Casey can contribute to a championship team, we feel very good about his decision to come to Northern and be a part of the Pack,” commented Northern State’s Head Coach Don Meyer.

Casey is the son of Tom and Kathy Anderson.  He is undeclared on a major at NSU.
