Wolves Down Peacocks 92-69 on Day 1 of Super 8/Bob Wachs Classic
Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State improved to 5-0 on the season as they downed future NSIC rival Upper Iowa (1-5) 92-69 on day one of the Super 8 / Bob Wachs Classic hosted by Northern State.
Northern State outscored the Peacocks 36 to 6 in points in the paint and 56-30 in bench points. Leading scorer for the Wolves were Aaron Busack (Sr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) and Matt Hammer (Sr., F, Elkton, S.D.) who both scored 14. Dan DeWitt (So., G, Lino Lakes, Minn.) dropped in 13 while Adam Grant (Sr., F, Berthold, N.D.) had 12 and Kyle Schwan (R-So., G, Aberdeen, S.D.) had ten. This marks the first time this season the Wolves have had five players score in double figures in a game.
Both teams were even from three point range as the Wolves hit 8 of 23 (34.8%) while the Peacocks were 8 of 22 (36.4%). For the game the Wolves were 29 of 63 for 46% while the Peacocks were 22 of 62 for 35.5%.
Northern State takes on Minnesota State ( Mankato) (3-1) tomorrow evening at 8:00 p.m. on day two of the Super 8 / Bob Wachs Classic. Prior to that game Upper Iowa with take on SW Minnesota State (0-2) at 6:00 p.m.
SMSU Men Fall to Minnesota State, Mankato
Minnesota State, Mankato Luke Anderson showed why he’s one of the best players in the country as the junior forward scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Mavericks to a 72-59 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night at the Super 8 / Bob Wachs Classic in Aberdeen, S.D.
The victory was the third straight for MSU and moves their record to 3-1. SMSU drops their second straight to open the season and is 0-2. Full Story
