Bulldogs Overcome 10 point 2nd Half Deficit
Duluth, Minn. - The Northern State (8-1, 0-0 NSIC) men suffered their first loss of the season as the red hot shooting Minnesota-Duluth (7-2) by the score of 80-75 at Romano Gym. The Bulldogs blew a six point halftime lead and trailed by as many as ten in the second half before making a run the last ten minutes of the second half.
The Wolves were 20 of 25 from the free throw line but four of their five misses came in the second half, including two by Matt Hammer with 2:05 left in the game.
The Wolves were out rebounded for the first time this season as the Bulldogs pulled down 39 compared to the Wolves 33.
The Bulldogs had a 39-33 lead at the half, but the Wolves stormed back to lead by as many as 10 before the Bulldogs knotted the game at 70 with 3:40 to go. The Bulldogs connected on 14 of their 26 three pointers in the game with Jordan Nuness leading the way scoring a career high 25 points in the game, including five three pointers.
Craig Nelson (R-So., G, Mayville, N.D.) led the Wolves with his 17 points on 5 of 10 shooting. All five baskets were three pointers made in the second half. Matt Hammer (Sr., F, Elkton, S.D.) had 15 first half points, but was held to just one in the second half. Bjoern Schoo (Sr., C, Germany) had 15 first half points as well, but did not play in the second half due to an injury. Aaron Busack (Sr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) added ten of his own points before fouling out with 3:20 left in the game.
The Wolves return to action next Saturday, December 17 th when they host in state rival Augustana College at Barnett Center at 8:00 p.m.
