Northern State Remains at #3 in North Central Region for Third Straight Week
Indianapolis, Ind. - Northern State remained at third in the fourth North Central Regional Ranking of 2006. The Wolves are currently 19-2 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC. Regionally the Wolves are 13-2 with six regular season games remaining on their schedule.
Overall, the top six teams remained in the same order for the third straight week, with Fort Hays State of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference staying at #1 followed by a pair of NSIC squads in Winona State at #2 and Northern State at #3. Minnesota State of the NCC stayed at #4 even though they suffered a loss over the week, while #5 Neb.-Kearney and #6 Fort Lewis of the RMAC also retained their positions.
Eight teams from the region will qualify for the national tournament, with automatic bids granted to the post-season tournament champions of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the North Central Conference, and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Of the 10 teams listed in the poll, two are NSIC schools (#2 Winona State and #3 Northern State). The RMAC boasts the most schools in the poll with five (#1 Fort Hays State, #5 Nebraska-Kearney, #6 Fort Lewis, #8 Metropolitan State and #9 Mesa State), while the NCC boasts three schools (#4 Minnesota State, #7 St. Cloud State and #10 South Dakota).
Northern State is currently ranked #12 in the NABC/DII Coaches Poll, which has no bearing on post-season play. The Wolves will host Concordia St. Paul on Friday and #13 Winona State on Saturday night at Barnett Center. Both games slated for 8:00 p.m. CST.
