Northern State Remains at #3 in North Central Region for Fourth Straight Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Northern State remained at #3 in the fifth North Central Regional Ranking of 2006. The Wolves are currently 20-3 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC. Regionally the Wolves are 14-3 with four regular season games remaining on their schedule.

Overall, the top four teams remained in the same order for the fourth straight week, with Fort Hays State of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference staying at #1 followed by a pair of NSIC squads in Winona State at #2 and Northern State at #3 and the North Central Conference's Minnesota State holding strong at #4.

St. Cloud State has made two big moves since entering the poll three weeks ago at #10. St. Cloud moved up from #7 last week to #5 in this week's poll. Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Lewis each dropped a spot to #6 and #7 while Metro State stayed at #8 and Mesa State at #9. Making their first appearance in this year's poll is the NSIC's Bemidji State, who rounds out the poll at #10.

Eight teams from the region will qualify for the national tournament, with automatic bids granted to the post-season tournament champions of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the North Central Conference, and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Of the 10 teams listed in the poll, three are NSIC schools (#2 Winona State, #3 Northern State and #10 Bemidji State). The RMAC boasts the most schools in the poll with five (#1 Fort Hays State, #6 Nebraska-Kearney, #7 Fort Lewis, #8 Metropolitan State and #9 Mesa State), while the NCC enters two schools (#4 Minnesota State and #5 St. Cloud State).

Northern State is currently ranked #16 in the NABC/DII Coaches Poll, which has no bearing on post-season play. The Wolves will travel to #10 Bemidji State this Friday, Feb. 17th for an 8:00 p.m. match-up with the Beavers. They then end their regular season road stint at Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. in Lysaker Gym.
