#18 Northwest Missouri Claws the Northern State Wolves
Aberdeen, S.D.- The #18 Northwest Missouri State Bearcats came to Wachs arena with one thing on their mind and that was revenge from last years defeat from the Wolves. They did just that as they beat the Wolves 88-60 in the second game of the Super 8/Bob Wachs classic. With the loss, the Wolves fall to 4-1, while the Bearcats improve to 3-1 on the year.
The Wolves only trailed by three points at 31-28 but were held scoreless in last 6:08 of the first half by the Bearcats as they took a 48-28 led into halftime. The Wolves started out strong, leading by as many as six points in the first ten minutes of the half, but could not stop the Bearcats' offensive attack as NMU shot 68.2% (15/22) from the field, 54.5% (6/11) from three-point range, and 92.3% (12/13) from the free throw line.
The Wolves only shot 45.0 (9/20) from the field in the first half. They were led by Kevin Ratzsch as he went 4-of-8 from the field for 11 points. The Bearcats were led by Dillon Higdon as he went 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from behind the arc for 18 points in the half.
The Bearcats also controlled the turnover margin as the caused thirteen turnovers to their four in the half. The Wolves did out-rebound the Bearcats 14 to 8 in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, the Bearcats continued their hot shooting as they shot 55.6% (15/27) from the field. The closest the Wolves could get to the Bearcats in the was 31-48 in the first two minutes. The rest of the half, the Bearcats would continue to increase their led over the Wolves.
For the game, Northern was led by Craig Nelson who shot 4-of-14 for 11 points and Kevin Ratzsch who shot 4-of-13, also for 11 points. Levi Hamilton and Luke Wicks added 9 apiece on the night. Dan DeWitt and Mitch Boeck each grabbed a team high five rebounds.
The Bearcats had four players in double figures and were led by Dillon Higdon, who shot 9-of-13 in the game and 6-of-10 from the three point arc for a game high 28 points. The other players that were in double figures for the Bearcats were Kelvin Cayruth with 12, Reggie Robinson with 11, and Lance Sullivan with 10.
The Wolves turned the ball over 20 times to the Bearcats 13. The Wolves did out rebound the Bearcats in the game by a 34 to 26 margin.
The Wolves will be in action again on Saturday November 25 th when they host Nebraska-Kearney at 8:00 pm in the second day of the Super 8/Bob Wachs Classic.
