Wolves Take Wind Out of the Golden Eagles

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves made it 16-0 all time against the Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles as the won 84-60 in Aberdeen, S.D. The Wolves improve to 11-5, 4-3 NSIC with the win as the Golden Eagles fall to 1-14, 0-6 NSIC on the season.
Despite going down early 11-4 the Wolves used two three pointers by Craig Nelson to start a 23-2 run to build their lead to 27-13 with 8:13 left to go in the half. The Golden Eagles would cut the lead back to 9 with just over five minutes to play, but the Wolves would counter the run by going on a 14-5 run to end the half to take a 43-27 lead into the half.
The Wolves were led by the hot hand of Craig Nelson as he went 4 of 8 and 3 of 6 from long range for 15 points. Nelson also snarred six defensive rebounds. The Wolves Kevin Ratzsch and Robert Thomas both had good first halves as they scored 10 and 8 points respectively.
The Golden Ealges were led by Mario Bonner off the bench as he scored 9 points on 3 of 5 shooting while pulling down three rebounds. Bryce Cummings had 8 points for Minnesota, Crookston as he went 3 of 6 from the field.
In the first half the Wolves shot 50.0% (16/32) from the field to the Golden Eagles 35.7% (10/28). The Wolves only turned the ball over 5 times to the Eagles 7 and out rebounded the Golden Eagles by one 18-17.
The Wolves kept the pressure on the Golden Eagles in the second half as they opened up a twenty point lead with 13:25 left in the game at 54-34. The Golden Eagles would cut the Wolves lead to 16 at 57-41 but that would be the closest they would get the rest of the way as they Wolves would go on a 27-19 run to end the game.
The Wolves were led by Craig Nelson as he shored 20 points on 5 of 10 from the field, 4 of 8 from long range, and 6 of 7 from the free throw line. Kevin Ratzsch and Rob Thomas were the only other Wolves in double figures as the scored 15 and 12 respectively.
Minnesota, Crookston was led by Bryce Cummings as he scored 8 of 13 from the field and 6 of 10 from behind the arc as he scored 22 points in the contest. The only other player for the Golden Eagles who was in double figures was Mario Bonner who scored 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting.
The Wolves shot 50.0% (31/62) in the game to the Golden Eagles 35.5% (22/62). The Wolves also shot 50.0% from long range as they went 8 of 16 and shot 82.4% (14/17) from the free throw line. The Wolves out rebounded the Golden Eagles 45 to 31 and they had 22 assists to the Golden Eagles 10. The Wolves also 36 points in the paint Minnesota, Crookston's 18.
The Wolves will be in action again on Saturday January 13th when they host Bemidji State at 8:00 in Aberdeen, SD.
