ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State split a doubleheader with Dakota Wesleyan on a sunny but windy afternoon in Aberdeen. The Wolves lost game one 3-1 but found their bats in game two as they won 12-4 in six innings. The Wolves are now 8-18 overall while Dakota Wesleyan is 5-25.
The Wolves scored their only run in game one after Lisa Koehler tripled off the left field fence scoring Emily Howlett. The Wolves out-hit the Tigers 7 to 5 and committed only two errors compared to five by DWU, but the Wolves left eight runners on base. Lisa Koehler went all seven innings for the Wolves giving up three runs on five hits as she drops to 3-10 on the season.
Game two did not start well for the Wolves as Audrey Decker allowed four runs on four hits in the first inning. However, Decker settled in and did not allow another run in the game.
The Wolves bats came alive as the collected 15 hits and took advantage of four Tiger errors. Tara Schumacher went 3 for 4 in game two, scoring and knocking in a run. Schumacher also stole three bases in the game. Angie Olson also went 3 for 4 with two runs scored while Emily Howlett went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored.
The Wolves travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. on Wednesday, April 20 th to take on Augustana College.
