Northern State took a pair of games against Bemidji State, both in five innings to flip spots with the Beavers in the NSIC standings. The Wolves 13-3 and 14-8 wins move them to sixth place in the NSIC with a record of 13-27, 4-10. The Beavers fall to 6-29 overall and 4-12 in the NSIC. Angie Olson and Emily Howlett both had huge days offensively for the Wolves.
Olson, the only senior on the Wolves team went 7 for 7 on the day with a home run, six runs scored and a RBI. Howlett went 2 for 4 in game one, but had three RBIs and two runs scored. Game two Howlett exploded for three homer runs in her first three at bats before being intentionally walked in her fourth at bat. She finished game two 3 for 3 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
The Wolves jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in game one and used a five run fourth to seal the deal taking game one 13-3. Lisa Koehler picked up her sixth win of the season as she went five innings, giving up three runs on nine hits. Jenna Drey went 2 for 2 in the game with her second home run of the season.
Game two saw the Wolves open up a relatively close game in the fourth and fifth innings. Angie Olson led the game off with a solo home run, only to have Howlett blast another solo shot two batters later. Howlett added another blast in a four run third inning and another dinger in the three run fourth. Howlett came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth with runners on first and second, but was intentionally walked and eventually scored.
The Wolves now move on to the NSIC Tournament on May 6 th and 7 th. Opponents and game times will be determined early next week.
