Northern State Adds Ten More in Spring Signing

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State head softball coach Terri Holmes is proud to announce the signing of ten more student-athletes to the 2006 squad. This class will mark Holmes first full recruiting class after joining the NSU staff last summer. Holmes has now added twelve new players, including three transfers from Si Tanka University and the return of Sara Lipetzky, to a team that had one of its best records in the past eight years in 2005.

“We are very excited about our recruiting class. We have strengthened ourselves in many key positions. We have also added quality people who will be a good fit at Northern. When you add the quality of players that will return for the 2005 season along with our new players we will be a very exciting and fun team to watch,” commented Holmes. Full List of Signees

Wayne State End's Wolves Season

The 2005 version of Northern State softball finished with one of the best records in the past eight years. The Wolves, under the directions of first year Head Coach Terri Holmes, went 14-29 on the season. The 14 wins ties the 2003 and 1999 seasons for the most wins in the past eight years.

The Wolves finished the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) season with a 4-10 mark, which ranked them sixth in the league. The Wolves lost four NSIC games by three runs or less, including three against Wayne State (NE). The Wolves went 1-2 in the NSIC Tournament, with their final game loss coming against Wayne State by the score of 4-2. The Wolves lost to MSU Moorhead in the first game of the NSIC Tournament by a score of 4-1, but rebounded to defeat Bemidji State 12-0 in five innings before falling to Wayne in the double elimination tournament. 2005 Preview

Northern State Softball opens up the 2005 season when they take on Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kan. on Tuesday, March 8th for a double header. The Wolves then take on Southwestern Baptist in Bolivar, Mo. before heading Joplin, Mo to take on Northwest Missouri State, Missouri-Rolla, Missouri Southern, and Southwest Oklahoma State for their spring trip.

The Wolves first home game is scheduled for March 14 th at 3:00 p.m. when they host Dakota Wesleyan. The Wolves follow that up with four more home games as take on Presentation College, Jamestown, MSU Moorhead and Mount Marty before heading into conference play on April 8th.

This season will mark the depute of Head Coach Terri Holmes who took over for Angie Eliason last fall. The Wolves are coming off a 6-33 overall and 4-12 NSIC mark from a year ago.
