MSU Moorhead Scored Four in Top of Seventh
Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State (10-13) lost game one of a non-conference doubleheader to MSU Moorhead (14-5) 6-2. MSU Moorhead scored two runs in the top of the first inning after three singles and a walk.
The Wolves scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth after Zomarie Lozano doubled and was drove in on a Luciola Figueroa double.
The Wolves then tied the game in the bottom of the sixth after Lozano doubled again and was drove in on a Lisa Koehler single.
The Dragons answered back in the top of the seven innings scoring four runs. Melissa Saylor reached on an error before Julie Cancura homered to right center put the Dragons up two. The Dragons finished the inning scoring four runs (two earned) to make it a 6-2 game.
The Wolves did get a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning and any hopes of the Wolves extending their winning streak to six.
Lisa Koehler pitched all seven innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits. Koehler walked two of the 31 batters she faced. Koehler went 2-for-3 in the game with and RBI while Lozano was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
The Wolves lost 11-0 in game two in five innings. The Wolves managed only three hits compared to 14 by the Dragons. The Wolves also had three errors in the game.
Audrey Decker (3-3) went 3 1/3 innings to get the loss as she gave up seven runs on 11 hits. Heather Olson pitched the final 1 2/3 innings as she gave up three earned runs on three hits.
The Wolves host Jamestown College on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Moccasin Creek in doubleheader action.
