Northern State Adds Ten More in Spring Signing

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State head softball coach Terri Holmes is proud to announce the signing of ten more student-athletes to the 2006 squad. This class will mark Holmes first full recruiting class after joining the NSU staff last summer. Holmes has now added twelve new players, including three transfers from Si Tanka University and the return of Sara Lipetzky, to a team that had one of its best records in the past eight years in 2005.
“We are very excited about our recruiting class. We have strengthened ourselves in many key positions. We have also added quality people who will be a good fit at Northern. When you add the quality of players that will return for the 2005 season along with our new players we will be a very exciting and fun team to watch,” commented Holmes.
Luciola Figueroa will transfer to Northern State from Si Tanka University. Originally from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, she will play catcher and third base. At Si Tanka she was a DAC-10 All-Conference selection and team MVP in both 2003 and 2004. She still holds two years of eligibility in softball. She will also play volleyball at Northern State as she continues her degree in criminal justice.
Ashton Finck is an outfielder from Rapid City, S.D. She attended Stevens High School where she was a member of the 2004 State Championship team. During the summer she plays for the U-18 Rapid City Flames Blue. She is a member of the National Honor Society as well as a South Dakota Board of Regents Scholar as she received the President’s Award of Excellence. She plans to major in music education at Northern State.
Cortney Halsey is a second and third basemen from Wheatland High School. She was her class valedictorian and an Academic All-Conference in golf and basketball. She plays for the Cheyenne Thunder for her summer league. She will also play golf at Northern State as she earns her degree in biology.
Jolene Klaudt played first base and shortstop at Bennett County High School in Martin, S.D. During the summer she plays in the Hi-Way 20 League. She received an Excellence in English III, C.A.D., Meteorology and Art at BHS. She is undecided in a major at Northern State.
Jessica Kozelsky is a middle infielder from West Hillside, Ill. At Proviso High School she was a two-time all-conference selection, a team MVP, a four year letter winner and an academic athlete. She also was a member of the National Honor Society, a four-time honor roll member and ranked third in her class of over 500 students. During the summer she plays for the Downers Grove Outlaws. At Northern State she plans to major in biology/medicine.
Sara Lipetzky will return to Northern State after taking the 2005 season off. In 2004 Lipetzky started in 22 of 24 games and batted .242. As an infielder, the Sioux Falls, S.D. native held a .938 fielding percentage.
Zomarie Lozano will transfer to Northern State from Si Tanka University. She is originally from Juncos, Puerto Rico and will play on the left side of the infield. She has two years of softball eligibility left and will finish her degree in physical education.
Megan Noel is a third basemen and outfielder from Arvada High School. The Arvada, Colo. native lettered only one year in high school due to an injury, but her senior year she batted .298 and had a fielding percentage of .982 at the hot corner. She plans to major in elementary education at Northern State.
Wilmayra Santana is a left-handed batting second baseman transferring from Si Tanka University. She is originally from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. She had three years of eligibility left for softball and will major in computer graphics at Northern State.
Natalie Simar comes to Northern State from Turner, Ore. There she pitched at Cascade High School. This past season she was a first team pitcher and pitcher of the year in her conference. She was also named to the senior all-star team. She was also a first team pitcher in 2003 and 2004. Last summer she participated on the Oregon Panthers summer league team. She plans to major in elementary education at Northern State.
Jamie Tegdesch is a multi positional player that will be used as a pitcher, a catcher and at first base. She played at Johnson High School in St. Paul, Minn. Through 18 games this season Johnson’s record was 14-4 overall and 10-0 in the St. Paul City League. On the mound Tegdesch is 7-1 with a 0.50 ERA and 43 strikeouts. She plans to major in education at Northern State.

Northern State Signs Two Early Softball Recruit For 2005-06
Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State Head Softball Coach Terri Holmes has announced the signing of two student athletest for the 2006 season. Robin Grossman or Merritt Island, Fla., and Heather Olson of Rosemount, Minn. are the lastest to sign national letters of intent with the Wolves.
Robin Grossman, a senior from Merritt Island, Fla., has recently declared her intentions to play softball for the Northern State Wolves in the 2005-06 season. Robin is a switch hitter and plays a variety of positions for Merritt Island High School including catcher, first base, third base and shortstop. Grossman has been named Athlete of the Week for her play on the softball field and she is also a two-year letter winner for the varsity squad at MIHS. Robin is the daughter of Marc and Beth Grossman. She currently holds a 3.55 GPA and is interested in studying physical therapy and athletic training when she comes to Northern.
Heather Olson, a 5’ 5” senior from Rosemount, Minn., has declared her intentions to play softball for the Northern State Wolves in the 2005-06 season. Heather attends Rosemount High School and has been a softball letter award winner since her freshman year. As a freshman Heather played second base for the Irish and was voted rookie of the year. As a sophomore she played left field and as a junior she played left field, center field, second base, pitcher, and catcher.
