Wolves Open Play In Orlando
March 6, 2007
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Northern State softball team (0-8) is well into their spring break trip to Orlando, FL where they have 10 games scheduled over six days. The Wolves have opened play in their first four games with good offensive production against quality teams.
In their first two games of the trip, the Wolves took early leads before giving up late runs for the losses. They were up 4-0 on St. Joseph's of Indiana going into the fifth inning before the opposing team crossed the plate seven times in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 7-4 win. Against Bellarmine in the second game on Sunday, the Wolves were up 5-2 as they entered the final at-bat. Bellarmine took advantage of two NSU errors on their way to four runs, resulting in the 5-6 loss for the Wolves.
In a set of games on Monday, the Wolves hit the ball hard, but to the wrong places and scored fewer runs. They were shut out by Southern Indiana after posting just two hits in the game, including a Jenna Drey tripl, and fell 0-2. Central Missouri State put five runs on the board in the second inning and led 6-2 going into the fifth. A two-run single by Drey in the fifth gave Northern their first runs of the day, but CMSU went on to end the game 10-2.
