Wolves Pick Up First Win

ORLANDO, Fla. – With seven hits and one of their best defensive outings of the season, the Northern State softball team (1-11) picked up their first win of the season, a 5-3 decision, over Lake Superior State on Thursday. The Wolves were downed 12-3 by Northern Kentucky earlier in the day.
Sophomore Hilary Smith (Brainerd, MN) went the distance for the Wolves against LSSU and was backed by a strong defense which committed just one error in the game. Senior Caitlin Hodges (Hartford, SD) reached base four time and scored twice, while seven different Wolves players tallied hits in the game.
The Wolves took a 3-0 lead into the matchup with Northern Kentucky before the Norse rattled out three big innings and ended the game after six innings, 12-3. The Wolves knocked out 12 hits in the game, but had seven fielding errors. Christi Schulti (Sioux Falls, SD) had three hits, including a second inning RBI double.
NSU will wrap up spring break play with games against Ferris State and UW-Parkside on Friday.
