Wolves Fall To Jamestown In Home Opener

ABERDEEN, SD – The Wolves softball teamed took on Jamestown College in the 2007 home opener at Moccasin Creek Field Tuesday afternoon. The Wolves were downed 14-5 in the first game of the doubleheader but recovered with a close 5-2 loss in game two of the day. Northern will host MSU Moorhead in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, with the first pitch being thrown at 3:00 pm.

The Jimmies jumped on top of the Wolves with a leadoff homerun and followed up with three additional runs in the first inning. Three more runs came in the second inning as Jamestown took a 7-0 lead. The Wolves got on the board in the bottom of the second as Audrey Decker got on base with a walk and made her way across the plate as a teammate got stuck in a hot box. Jamestown posted runs in every inning and led 14-1 in the fifth before the Wolves strung together five hits and took advantage of a JC error on their way to four runs.

Caitlin Hodges notched two singles in the game and had one of NSU’s four RBI. Five other Wolves tallied one of Northern’s seven hits. Hilary Smith pitched into the second inning and took the loss for NSU. Audrey Decker pitched four innings of relief and had three strikeouts. Jamestown finished the game with 18 hits, including three homeruns. Nikki Marcoux went 3-for-3 from the plate, scored four runs, and notched three RBI.

 

Both the Wolves and Jimmies took advantage of fielding errors to score a run in the first inning of game two. Jamestown got back on top in the third inning with a three run knockout. Sam Francis scored Caitlin Hodges in the fourth before Jamestown tacked on an unearned run in the fifth, resulting in a final score of 5-2.

The Wolves came up with five hits from five different players. Drey and Hodges notched the team’s two RBI. With 10 team hits in the game, Jamestown was led by Bree Summers with three hits. Novakovski racked up three of the team’s four RBI. Nikki Marcoux allowed five hits and one NSU earned run in the game while gaining three strikeouts.
