WOLVES
SURVIVE BEARCATS, FRESHMEN STEP UP IN 2-1 VICTORY
ABERDEEN,
SD - The Northern State soccer team buried two goals in
the span of 31 seconds to claim a 2-1 victory over Northwest
Missouri State on Saturday in Aberdeen.
The
Wolves found themselves in a 1-0 hole after NW Missouri's
Rory Okey drilled home a goal for the Bearcats in the 52nd
minute off of a pass from Emily Perkins.
Northern
wouldn't waste any time getting back in the game, however,
as freshman Melissa Gamble posted her first collegiate
goal on an assist from Linsey Bottiger just two minutes
and ten seconds later to knot the score at 1-1.
The
Wolves weren't finished with just one goal as another NSU
freshman wanted to get in the mix just 31 seconds later
when Jessi Hambrick netted a goal on an assist from
Elizabeth Malatesta to put NSU up by one.
Northern
was able to hold on for the remaining 35 minutes and earn
its first win of the season over NWMSU.
"For
our first game I thought we did good," commented Hambrick.
"There's a lot of things we have to work on and I think
we're a lot better than we played today."
NSU
outshot the Bearcats by an 11-8 count while both teams put
three shots on goal on the day.
NSU's
Emily Herbst earned the victory making two saves
and allowing one goal on the day.
Northern
State (1-0) hosts Augustana Sunday at 1 p.m. at the NSU
Grounds.
