GAINS FIRST CONFERENCE WIN 2-0 OVER WAYNE STATE
Aberdeen,
SD- The Northern State soccer team began the NSIC season
right where they left off in non-conference play winning
over Wayne State (Neb.) 2-0 on a chilly Sunday afternoon.
The
Wolves scored midway through the first half when Elizabeth
Malatesta knocked the ball off of a Wayne State defender
into the net to put NSU up 1-0 in the 23rd minute.
Kirsten
Carl then did the work in the second half finishing off
a ball set up by Malatesta and Laura Finnvik five minutes
into the period to cap the Wolves' scoring for the day.
Northern
was able to outshoot the Wildcats 15-11 while putting six
shots on goal compared to WSC's four.
Emily
Herbst gained the win for Northern collecting her third
shutout of the season and turning away all four Wildcat
shots on goal.
Northern
State (8-0-1, 1-0-0 NSIC) will hit the road next weekend
to face Bemidji State and Minnesota, Crookston in league
action.
