Three Wolves Named to NSIC All-Conference

St. Paul, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) has announced the 2004 Women’s Soccer All-Conference team award winners, selected by the league.

Northern State’s Suanne Lampert and Winona State’s Amy Budish have been selected as the 2004 NSIC Co-Players of the Year. Lampert, a junior midfielder from Golden, Colo., totaled 19 points on the season, coming on eight goals and three assists. She helped lead the Wolves to a 5-2 mark in league play and a 13-7 overall record. Lampert’s eight goals tied for second on the team.

Lampert, a junior midfielder from Golden, Colo., finished tied for seventh in the NSIC in goals and goals per game as she knocked in eight goals throughout the season, two coming against Si Tanka University. She doubled her goals from a season ago, a performance that earned her NSIC First Team All-Conference selection and Adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Central Region Third Team. She has now tallied 14 career goals in 53 game, 41 of which she has started.

Lissa HeavilandLissa Heaviland (Jr., Def, Golden, Colo.) earned her third NSIC All-Conference selection this season. In her freshman campaign Heaviland earned First Team All-Conference and took honorable mention honors her sophomore season. Heaviland is the only current Northern State player that has been named to the NSIC All-Conference Team three years in a row.

Heaviland anchored a Wolves defense that posted nine shutouts on the year; four in the NSIC, including shutting out regular season champions Winona State.

 

Melissa GambleMelissa Gamble (So., For, Calgary, AB) backed up here rookie campaign where she scored 13 goals and earned NSIC New-Comer of the Year, with another eye popping season. Gamble was second in the NSIC shots (77), shots per game (3.85), points per game (1.65), goals (14), and was third in goals per game (0.70). Gamble has been clutch in close games as she finished second in the NSIC last year in game winning goals with four. She again showed her prowess around the goal as she knocked in six game winners, double of any other player in the NSIC. Gamble now has 26 career goals and 57 points. She ranks fourth in the NSU record book in points (57), goals (27) and in shots on goal (81) in only two years of play.
