Vikings Stormed the Wolves

Aberdeen, S.D. - On a cold windy day in Aberdeen, S.D. the Northern State Wolves (11-6, 6-3 NSIC) were unable to pick up a win on senior day against the Augustana College Vikings (3-11-1, 0-8-1 NCC). The Wolves picked up the first goal of the game but that was all they could get as they would lose 3-1.

The Wolves out shot the Vikings 16-10 in the game with a 7 to 4 advantage in shots on goal. In the first half the Wolves put on the pressure early as Liz Malatesta (Sr., M., Cheyanne, Wyo.) would put one past the Vikings goal keeper off of an assist from Larissa Strychun (Jr., F., Calgary, Alberta) in the 7th minute of play. The Vikings would come right back and tie the score up in the 25th minute as Erin Seidel blasted one past the Wolves goal keeper off of an Mallary Born assist.

Going into the second period the Wolves would continue to put on the pressure, but an unlucky bounce helped Erin Seidel net her second goal of the game off of an Erin Murphy pass in the 62nd minute of action. The Vikings would add an insurance goal in the 66th minute as Mallary Born got the goal off of a corner kick from Amy Lueking.

Theresa Alexander (Sr., GK., Cooper City, Fla.) fell to 6-6 on the season with the loss. The Wolves will play their final game of the regular season on October 20th when they travel to Mankato, Minn. to take on the Mavericks of Mankato State at 2:00 pm.

Northern State University (located in Aberdeen, SD) is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
