Wolves Struggle in Last Game of the Season
Mankato, Minn. - The Northern State Wolves (11-7, 6-3 NSIC) could not get anything going offensively as they would lose to the MSU Mankato Mavericks (9-4-2) 2-0 in non-conference action. The Mavericks out shot the Wolves 19-2 in the game with a 8-1 advantaged in shots on goal.
The Mavericks would get on the board in the middle of the first half as Keri Blanchetter took a pass from Carly Peterson to score her sixth goal of the season and put the Mavericks up 1-0. The Wolves only got one shot off the whole first half and were unable to put any pressure on the Mavericks goal keeper.
The second goal for the Mavericks came in the 87th minute as Gina Paletta would get her fourth goal of the season. The goal was unassisted. That goal put all hopes out of reach for the Wolves to tie the game and send it into overtime.
The Wolves goal keeper Catherine Grace (So., GK., Littleton, Colo.) would suffer her first loss of the season as her record fell to 5-1. Grace recorded six saves on the afternoon. The Mavericks goal keeper Jennie Dahmer improved her record to 9-0-1 with the victory.
This is the second meeting between the two teams. Unfortunately the Wolves have been on the losing end both times. The first meeting was on September 5th, 2004 were the Mavericks defeated the Wolves 2-1.
The Wolves will be in action on Tuesday October 24, 2006 in Aberdeen, SD when they host a first round NSIC tournament game. There will be more to come on who the Wolves play and at what time.
Northern State University (located in Aberdeen, SD) is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
