Wolves Ranked 6th In Central Region

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Northern State soccer team received a sixth place ranking in this week's NCAA Division II Regional Poll, as released by the NCAA. The Wolves earned the ranking after recently defeating then-ranked #14 Winona State and having won or tied their last six opponents. NSU is 8-3-2 overall and in the Central Region. The Wolves need to stay in the top six in the region to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

The Wolves have some stiff competition in the Central Region. Leading the regional poll is Minnesota State Mankato and Winona State, who are tied for first place. The Wolves fell to the Mavericks 0-1 in their meeting in early September and defeated the Warriors 1-0 on September 30. Ranked fifth in the regional poll is the University of Mary, who has gone 7-3 in regional play. In yet another close game, the Marauders defeated the Wolves 1-0 on September 16.

The NCAA Division II women’s soccer championship will provide for a 48-team, single-elimination tournament. Six teams will be chosen from each of the eight regions established by the women’s soccer committee. For first- and second-round competition, teams will be paired in their respective regions with the No. 4 seed playing the No. 5 seed; and No. 3 seed playing the No. 6 seed on Friday, November 9. The winner of the No.4/5 seed game will advance to play the No. 1 seed and the winner of the No. 3/6 seed game will play the No. 2 seed on Sunday, November 11. First- and second-round games will consist of two sites per region.

The winners in the second round will advance to the third round and quarterfinals to be played on Friday, November 16 and Sunday, November 18. Championship selections will take place Monday, November 5.
