ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State sophomore Summer Swan was the leading offensive threat for the NSU soccer team last week and has been named Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the Northern Sun Conference office. Swan led the Wolves to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State. A win or tie this Saturday against the University of Mary will give NSU the NSIC Regular Season Championship.
Swan, a midfielder from Oregon City, Ore., scored two goals last week, one in each game against UMC and BSU. Her goal against Bemidji State was a game-winner in a 1-0 match. The score came in the 82nd minute of an otherwise scoreless game as Swan headed a ball into the net off of a corner kick and gave the Wolves the win. It was her third goal of the season and first game-winner of the year.
The Wolves are 14-3-2 overall this season and lead the NSIC standings with a 7-0-1 record. They have a final game remaining in the season, which will help determine the who wins the NSIC Regular Season Title. The Wolves need a win or tie against U-Mary to claim the Championship on their own. A loss or tie by Winona State will also hand the title to the Wolves. The game is slated for a 12 noon start this Saturday at Jerde Field.
