Northern State finished the 17th Annual 7-Up Lady Buff Classic (Canyon, Texas) Saturday night by losing to host team West Texas A&M 66-51.
After going into halftime with the score knotted at 29, NSU's shooting went ice cold. The Wolves went just 7-of-39 (18 percent) from the field in the final frame. Junior guard Jammie Coyle (Belle Fourche, S.D.) was the only player to manage double digits in points for NSU (4-5), ending with 15 on the night. Both Coyle and fellow junior guard Amanda Mikuska (Platte, S.D.) finished with a team-high seven rebounds. Valeree Valdez led WTAMU (5-5) with 20 points.
The Wolves finished the round-robin tourney 1-2. In the early game, Southeastern Oklahoma State upset Wayland Baptist in overtime. That didn't prevent the second-ranked Flying Queens from winning the tournament, however. Both Wayland Baptist and West Texas A&M finished with 2-1 records, but Wayland was awarded the championship because WTAMU's loss came against WBU. Coyle and Mikuska were earned all-tournament laurels.
