Northern State had little trouble in its home opener Sunday afternoon, pasting Jamestown College 83-45 in Wachs Arena.
Senior guard Jammie Coyle (Belle Fourche) poured in 10 of NSU's first 14 points and had assists for the other two scores to help the Wolves set the tone early with a 14-2 lead. NSU's 14-point halftime cushion soon ballooned out of control in the second half, as the Jimmies wouldn't pull to within 25 points of the Wolves in the last 15 minutes of the game. Coyle finished with a game-high 18 points as the Wolves were able to get everyone on their deep bench minutes. Junior forward Natalie Braun (Warner) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for NSU as the Wolves controlled the boards 58-36 for the game.
Sophomore point guard Holly Schaunaman (Leola), coming back from a rib injury, stepped in admirably for injured senior three-year starting point Amanda Mikuska (Platte), netting a career-high 11 points. Fellow sophomore guard Amanda Dietrich (Mandan, N.D.) tied a career high with 11 points of her own. Junior post Jennifer Murphy (Aberdeen) also added 11 to round out NSU's double-digit performances. The Jimmies were led by Megan Feichtner's 12 points.
Northern State is now 3-1 overall after knocking off nationally-ranked
