Mavs Light Up Wolves With 3s

Marshall, Minn. – The Mavericks of Minnesota State Mankato (3-1) lit up the Wolves from downtown as they hit 14 of 28 three-pointers to down the Wolves 86-62 at the Southwest Minnesota State / Bancorp Classic in Marshall, Minn. The Mavs 14 three pointers were a regular season record, as they hand the Wolves (3-1) their first loss of the season.

The Mavs finished the first half on a 23-7 run to up them up 40-18 at the break. The Wolves were 6 of 24 (25.0%) from the field and only 1 of 7 (14.3%) from three-point range. The Mavs hit 15 of 36 (41.7%) shots, and were a stupendous 10-19 (52.6%) from long range in the first half. The rebounds were even at 21 a piece, but the Wolves committed ten turnovers to the Mavericks five.

The second half saw the Wolves shoot better from inside as they hit 12 of 33 (36.4%), but continued to struggle from the outside, hitting only 2 of 11 shots from beyond the arc. They finished the game hitting only 3 of there 18 (16.7%) three-points compared to the Mavs 14 of 28 (50%). The Wolves did out rebound the Mavs 44-37, but had 18 turnovers compared to 11 by Minnesota State.

Noelle Hall (Fr., C, Altura, Minn.) continues to impress as she picked up her first double-double of her short career as she scored a team/career high 23 points and grabbed a game/career high 14 rebounds. Hall was 6 of 9 shooting and 11 of 12 from the charity stripe in the game. Hall attempted as many free throws as they Mavericks made in the game (12-16).

The Wolves stay in Marshall, Minn. to take on Upper Iowa on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on day two of the SMSU / Bancorp Classic.
