Wolves Knock Off MSU Moorhead

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State handed MSU Moorhead their first NSIC loss of the season with a impressive 83-73 win at Barnett Center. Ali Chmielewski scored a career high 21 points and Liza Sizer tied a career high with 20 points as the Wolves improved to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the NSIC. The Dragons, ranked 3rd in the latest North Central regional rankings, fall to 17-4 and 7-1 in the NSIC.

The Wolves opened the game on an 8-0 run only to have the Dragons battle back and knot the game at ten. The Wolves then went on a 14-0 run to lead 24-10 with 11:53 to go in the first, a lead would not drop below five points. The Dragons made a run with four minutes to go, to pull within six, but the Wolves countered with four straight free throws to seal the win and knock the Dragons from the ranks of the unbeaten in the NSIC.

Ali Chmielewski (Jr., G, Foley, Minn.) tied a career high in three pointers made as she hit her first four out of six from downtown in the first half. On the night she hit 6 of 14 shots, grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists and nabbed two steals. Liza Sizer (Sr., G, Miller, S.D.) was another early factor for the Wolves as she also tied a career high in three pointers made as she went 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. She also tied a career high in points, with 20, as she was 8 of 13 shooting on the night. Noelle Hall (Fr., C, Altura, Minn.) helped the Wolves win the battle on the boards as she grabbed 13 rebounds while scoring eight points. Michelle Hanson (Sr., F/C, Fargo, N.D.) added ten points off the bench in 16 minutes of play.

For the game the Wolves shot 42.6% (29-68) from the field and 43.5% (10-23) from three-point range. They also out rebounded the Dragons 45-43 and outscored them 28-16 in points in the paint. The Dragons also committed 15 turnovers compared to the Wolves nine. The Wolves used those turnovers to score 18 points.

The Wolves will hit the road as they will take on Concordia St. Paul and Winona State next weekend. Concordia St. Paul defeated Winona State 89-64 in St. Paul tonight as the Golden Bears improve to 15-6 overall and 5-3 in the NSIC.

Ali Chmielewski Named NSIC Player of the Week

Ali ChmielewskiST. PAUL, Minn.– Ali Chmielewski of Northern State and Kristen Humphries of Wayne State have been named NSIC Players of the Week. Chmielewski (Jr., G, Foley, Minn.) scored 21 points, had five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals to lead the Wolves to victory, knocking-off previously unbeaten MSU Moorhead, 83-73. Chmielewski drained 4-6 from downtown in the first half and ended up shooting 6-14 from the field in the contest.
