Teacher Defeats Student Second Straight Season
Northern State (3-0, 0-0 NSIC) defeated Colorado School of Mines (1-2, 0-0 RMAC) 92-62 on day two of the Super 8 / Northern Classic held in Aberdeen, S.D. The win was number 590 in the career of Northern State head coach Curt Fredrickson. Fredrickson was also going up against former NSU assistant and player Paula Krueger, now the head coach of the Orediggers.
The win marked the 699 th in the history of Northern State women’s basketball that began back in 1969-70. Fredrickson, who is in his 27 th season, holds 590 of the 699 wins.
Northern State jumped out to an early 12-3 lead and never looked back as they led 51-20 at half. The 20 points for the Orediggers was the most scored in the first half by an RMAC team in the classic. Overall in the classic the NSIC went 4-0 against the RMAC and while outscoring them 327 to 172. The 30 point margin of victory for the Wolves was the narrowest of the four games.
Three Wolves had career nights, while others had regular solid performances. Ali Chmielewski (Sr., F, Foley, Minn.) was red hot shooting as she tied a career high with 21 points on 7 of 8 shooting. With her seven rebounds she was one shy of her career high in boards as well. Twin sister KristieChmielewski (Sr., D, Foley, Minn.) notch her career high and she dumped in nine points while JacylnArns (So., G, St. Michael, Minn.) had a career high six.
Noelle Hall (So., C, ALtura, Minn.) had another impressive night as she scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Miranda Boepple (Jr., F, Dickinson, N.D.) had 14 points and five boards.
The Wolves again dominated the boards and they had 49 compared to the Orediggers 29. The Wolves also had 18 offensive boards. Northern State also shot 36 free throws (25-36, 69%) compared to 16 by the Mines (9-16, 56%). Points in the paint also went to the Wolves as they outscored the Diggers 36 to 14 down low.
Northern State will host the University of South Dakota on Tuesday, November 22 nd at 6:00 p.m. at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, S.D.
Wayne State Whips Colorado Christian
Aberdeen, S.D. - Wayne State cruised past Colorado Christian 77-39 on day two of the Super 8 / Northern Classic which was hosted by Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. Wayne State held Colorado Christian to eight first half points on 2 of 24 shooting (8.3%).
Wayne was led by Kristen Humphries who scored 20 points on 8 of 8 shooting from the field. Wayne State added 12 fast break points and 36 points in the paint in the game. Game Stats
