Northern State Women Cruise Past Winona State 67-41

Winona, Minn. – Northern State (12-3, 4-0 NSIC) ran past Winona Sate 67-41 as Curt Fredrickson picked career win 599 in his career. The Wolves opened up a 41-11 halftime lead and cruised from there.

The Wolves allowed a season low 11 points in the first half as the Warriors were only 4 of 29 (13.8%) from the field and 1 of 12 (8.3%) from three point range.

The Wolves were 17 of 30 (56.7%) from the field and 6 of 13 (46.2%) from three point range. The Wolves also held a 24 to 15 rebounding edge at the break.

Only nine fouls were called on both teams in the first half and five free throws taken. The Wolves were 1 of 1 while the Warriors went 2 of 4 from the charity stripe.

The second half saw the Warriors open up on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 41-18but would get only as close as 21 at 48-27 at the midway point of the second half. The Wolves were outscored 30-26 in the second half, but still manage to win by 26 points.

This marks the third straight win for the Wolves over the Warriors and their fifth in the last six meetings. Winona State has now lost seven straight games dating back to December.

Miranda Boepple (Jr., F, Dickinson, N.D.) was the lone Wolf to score in double figures as she netted 13 points on 3 of 5 shooting including two from downtown. Noelle Hall So., C, Altura, Minn.), Sara Jensen (Sr., F, South Shore, S.D.) and Celia Westphal (Jr., F, Worthington, Minn.) all scored eight points for the Wolves.

Leading scorer for the Warriors was Katie Zellmer with 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting.

Northern State stays on the road as they travel to St. Paul Saturday night to take on Concordia St. Paul (11-5, 3-1 NSIC) at 6:00 p.m. at the Gangelhoff Center.
