Fredrickson Picks up Career Win 600 in 72-68 Win at Concordia St. Paul

St. Paul, Minn. – Head Coach Curt Fredrickson picked up his 600 th career win as Northern State’s (13-3, 5-1 NSIC) battled their way to a 72-68 victory of Concordia St. Paul (11-7, 3-3 NSIC) at the Gangelhoff Center. Fredrickson is now only one of four DII women’s basketball coaches to reach the 600 wins plateau.

This marks the first time since 2000 that the Wolves have won in St. Paul.

Noelle Hall (So., C, Altura, Minn.) scored a career high 25 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had six assists and blocked four shots. Hall was 11 of 20 from the field and 3 of 4 from the charity stripe in her 29 minutes of play.

The Golden Bears opened up a 12 point first half lead with 4:15 to go as they went on a 12-0 run to take a 31-19 lead. The Wolves did not allow another Golden Bear field goal the rest of the half as they ended it on a 13-4 run to make it a 35-32 contest at the break.

The Wolves opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 40-35 lead. The Golden Bears went 9:14 from the last part of the first half until 14:55 of the second half with out a field goal.

The game was close the rest of the way with the Wolves finally gaining a four point lead with under two minutes to go. The Golden Bears closed the gap to two points after a flurry of shots were taken under the basket finally resulting in a pair of free throws to make it a 68-66 game. The Wolves were able to hit their free throws down the stretch and give Fredrickson his 600 th win.

Carolin Becker (Jr., F, Beulah, N.D.) added 12 points, including a pair of free throws to ice the game. Miranda Boepple (Jr., F, Dickinson, N.D.) added ten points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes of play.

The Golden Bears were led by Nakia Carlisle who scored 24 points on 10 of 20 shooting.

The Wolves were out rebounded in the contest 40-39 and 16 to 10 on the offensive end, but the Wolves went to the line 22 times, connecting on 17 (77.3%) while the Golden Bears were 9 of 12 (75%) from the stripe.

The Wolves next contest is a non-conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 24 th at Black Hills State University. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
