Carolin Becker Records Double Double as Wolves Hang on Over CSP
Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State (18-4, 7-1 NSIC) swept Concordia St. Paul (14-8, 5-4 NSIC) for the first time since the 1999-00 season as they hold on to beat the Golden Bears 67-59 at Barnett Center. Carolin Becker collected a double double as she scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Ali Chmielewski scored a team high 18 points before fouling out in the last minute of the game. Miranda Beopple had 13 points and 5 rebounds and Sara Jensen had 11 points and 7 rebounds to help the Wolves to victory.
The Wolves had 16 turnovers to the Golden Bears 14. Five of the turnovers came off of shot clock violations. The Wolves went up by 13 early in the second period but they would go on a nine minute scoring drought which allowed the Bears to climb back into the game. Melissa Braaten hit four big free throws in the last minute of the game to help the Wolves seal the deal.
The Wolves shot 78.8 (26/33) from the free throw line compared to the Golden Bears 68.4 (13/19). The Wolves also out shot the Golden Bears from the field with a percent of 36.2 (17/47) to 33.9 (20/59).
Concordia St. Paul was led by Katie LaViolette with a career high 19 points and Nakia Carlisle had 18 points for the Golden Bears.
The Wolves will be in action on February 11 th when they host the Winona State Warriors in the Barnett Center at 6:00 pm.
