Wolves Secure Second Place Finish in NSIC

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State (21-5, 10-3 NSIC) secured a second place finish in the NSIC and a home game in the first round of the NSIC/Red Baron Basketball Classic as they tamed the Mustangs of SW Minnesota State (6-20, 3-10 NSIC) 83-66 at the Barnett Center. Noelle Hall (So., C, Altura, Minn.) scored over 20 points for the third consecutive game as she dumped in a game high 22 points in the win.

The Wolves jumped out to a 21-13 lead midway through the fist half but the scrappy Mustangs went on to outscore the Wolves 20-16 to cut the score to 37-33 at the half. In the second half the Wolves would increase their lead to 57-47 but the Mustangs would come back again to cut the lead to 57-55 with 8:18 left in the game. That was the closest the Mustangs would get as Wolves would close out the game on a 26-11 run.

Sara Jensen (Sr., G., South Shore, S.D.) surpassed 600 points in her career. With the 12 point effort she now has 605 in her collegiate career. Jensen also recorded four rebounds and four assists on the night. Along with her 22 points Noelle Hall also recorded eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Miranda Boepple (Jr., F., Dickinson, N.D.) also played a big role as she scored 9 points and snared 7 rebounds.

The Mustangs were led by Sara Leidall who scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds on the night. Kelly Crimi was the only other Mustang in double figures as she dropped in 15 points going 5-8 from three point range.

The Wolves out rebounded the Mustangs in the game by 13 and had 36 points in the paint compared to the Mustangs 20. The Wolves (22/26) also attempted 18 more free throws then the Mustangs (7/8).

The Wolves playoff game on Wednesday March 1 st will be at 6:00 pm in Aberdeen, SD in the Barnett Center.
