Wolves Snap Wayne State's 17 Game Winning Streak
Hand Wayne State First NSIC Loss (13-1)

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State (22-5, 11-3 NSIC) snapped #19 Wayne State’s (24-3, 13-0 NSIC) 17 game winning streak with a 72-69 win in front of 5,176 fans at Barnett Center. Sara Jensen (Sr., G., South Shore, S.D.) led the Wolves with 18 points and was a perfect 4-of-4 from three point range as the Wolves handed the Wildcats their first NSIC loss of the season.

Wayne State trailed at the half for only the third time this year, 32-35. The Wolves came out in the second half and went up by as many as 10 points, but the pesky Wildcats would cut the deficit to two at 63-61 with 5:02 to go in the game. As in the first game the Wolves were up three with thirty seconds to go, but this time were able to hold on for the win.

Both teams struggled from the free throw line as Wayne State shot 58.8% (10-of-17) and the Wolves shot a lowly 40.0% (6-of-15). The Wolves shot 50.9% (29-of-57) from the field compared to the Wildcats 47.4% (27-of-57). The Wolves sizzled from the three point line as they shot 61.5% (8-of-13) compared to the Wildcats 33.3% (5-of-15).

Jensen went 7-of-10 shooting and tied a career high with seven rebounds. Noelle Hall (So., C., Altura, Minn.) dumped in 16 points on the night and recorded nine rebounds for the Wolves. Carolin Becker (Jr., F., Beulah, N.D.) put in 10 points and Miranda Boepple (Jr., F., Dickinson, N.D.) had 11 points to help the Wolves secure the win.

Wayne State is ranked third in the North Central Region while Northern State is ranked fifth.

The Wolves will host a first round game of the Red Barron/ NSIC Basketball Classic on Wednesday March 1 st in Aberdeen, S.D. The game is set to start at 6:00 p.m. men to follow at 8:00 p.m. The Wolves opponents will be determined Sunday afternoon.
